Why put eggs in seafood boil?
Eggs are added to seafood boils because they are good for soaking up the spices and the rich flavors of the seafood boil dipping sauce or the seasoned water used to cook the seafood boil recipe.
Like all the other additions to a seafood boil which includes the lobster, crab legs, clams, mussels, shrimp, potatoes, corn, or cucumbers, the eggs are another component of a seafood boil used to dip into the seafood or butter sauce to make a boil more interesting.
Do you boil the eggs first for a seafood boil?

Do you peel the eggs in a seafood boil?
I like to peel the eggs before I add them to the seafood boil and serve. That way it’s easy to coat the peeled eggs with the sauce. I’ve also seen people serve theirs unpeeled, then peel it while they’re eating the seafood boil.

To start, measure out and gather all of your ingredients in one place.
Note, if you’re serving this dish with a sauce, rather than melted butter, now is the time to make it. You can find a simple recipe for a seafood boil sauce linked above. I make my own seafood boil sauce with a mix of butter, garlic cloves, onion, complete seasoning, paprika, ginger, thyme, lemon pepper, cayenne, and lemon juice.
Next, prepare your ingredients for the seafood boil. This includes washing the crab legs and deveining the shrimp if they’re not yet de-veined. Chopping off the heads of the lobster if they’re not yet chopped off, cleaning the mussels, and chopping up the sausages. (Tips for these above)
Then add 16 cups of water, old bay leaves, lemon juice, and lemon pepper seasoning to the pot of water and bring to a boil. You can also use some of this seafood boil seasoning mix here as well.
When everything has been prepared and the water has begun to boil, start cooking the seafood as follows:
- Cook the shrimp for 3 minutes
- Cook the lobster tails for 12 minutes
- Cook the mussels for 5 minutes
- Cook the crab legs for 10 minutes
Also, cook the eggs for the seafood boil for 7 minutes and the sausages for 8-10 minutes.
Then place everything including the sliced cucumbers and lemon slices on a serving dish, then pour some melted butter or some of my delicious seafood boil sauce, garlic butter sauce for seafood, or even the copycat blove’s seafood sauce over the low country boil with eggs and enjoy!
