Gumbo is an iconic dish of the American South and it represents a heart and soul-warming mixture of different cultures and cuisines. It is characterized by a blend of shellfish and continental ingredients with simple vegetables and outstanding spices. This Gumbo will bring flavors of Louisiana to your table and nourish you from the inside with its rich aroma.

Besides being absolutely delicious, this stew is Keto friendly and will not kick you out of ketosis. Indeed, this low carb gumbo recipe is a perfect way to fill yourself with protein and fat while enjoying a miraculous blend of shellfish, chicken and Cajun seasonings.

Tips on how to make your low carb gumbo amazing:

  • Although this gumbo has rich seasonings, you can add some celery flakes, like ½ teaspoon or add a small stalk of chopped celery. In that case, use only half of the bell pepper.
  • The recipe calls for the smoked Andouille sausage. The smoked version brings some complex and deep flavors, but if you do not have one and still want to have the best possible gumbo, you can use ½ teaspoon of smoked paprika to add complexity and deep flavors to your gumbo.
  • Besides shrimps, we have tried to make a gumbo with different shellfish, and guess what – it was amazing!
  • If you want a bit of chunkier gumbo, use canned whole tomatoes, instead of strained tomatoes. Gently crush the tomatoes with the back of your spoon during the cooking process.
