Seafood Boil with lobster tails

Most people make their seafood recipes with seafood like shrimp and crab legs. Since lobster tails can tend to be a bit expensive, they’re not always an option that people gravitate to. In fact, many seafood boil recipes do not include any lobster tails. However, if you decide to splurge a little today and add lobster tails to your seafood boil recipe, I’ll show you a simple and delicious way to make it.

This recipe has four servings, is very simple to make, and is so yummy you’ll want to make it every week!

Ingredients for a seafood boil recipe with lobster tails

  • 1/2 cup seafood boil seasoning or my easy homemade seafood seasoning
  • 1 pound of potatoes (peeled and quartered or quartered with skin on)
  • 3 ears corn on the cob cut into 4-inch pieces
  • 4 lobster tails
  • ½ pound mussels, scrubbed
  • ½ pound crab legs (or 4 whole crabs)
  • ½ pound smoked sausage cut into 1-inch pieces
  • ½ pound shrimp peeled and deveined (leave tails on)
  • 1 head of garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 onion peeled and chopped
  • 2 lemons (divided use)
  • 3 Bay leaves (optional)
  • ¼ cup of butter
  • Fresh parsley

Prepare all the food for cooking.

  • Start by cleaning all the shellfish thoroughly under running water.
  • Also, make sure the potatoes are cleaned and peeled (or at least quartered if you prefer the skins on.
  • Next, cut the corn into 4-inch pieces. I love using fresh corn on the cob. It takes a few more minutes to cook but in my opinion, it’s fresher, crisper, sweeter, more flavorful, and juicier. But any kind will do.
  • And the smoked sausages into half-inch pieces.
  • Also, peel the onion and garlic cloves and set those aside.

Then make a seafood broth in a large deep pot

I recommend a large deep pot for this step. Some people like using dutch ovens, or wide pots and they do work. In fact, I’ve used a smaller pot to make a seafood boil recipe before and it does the trick. You could do it that way too if this is what you have, but my best recommendation is to make your life a LOT easier and pick up the Homechef Stainless Steel Large 12-quart Stockpot on Amazon. Especially if you enjoy making seafood boils as I do.

For the broth, pour 16 cups of water into the pot and bring it to a boil. Then pour ½ cup of seafood boil seasoning, the juice of 1 lemon, the peeled and finely chopped garlic (reserve some for later), and the chopped onion into the pot. Also, if you have it on hand, place 3 bay leaves into the boiling water.

Then start cooking the lobster seafood boil. To start:

  • Add the potatoes and cook for 10 minutes.
  • Add the lobster tails and cook for 5-6 minutes.
  • Add the mussels, crab legs, and corn on the cob and cook for 6 minutes.
  • Add the smoked sausage and shrimp and coke for 4 minutes.

Drain the liquid. But, not before setting aside 1 or 2 cups of seafood broth to make a delicious sauce to go with a seafood boil.

To make the sauce, melt ¼ cup of butter in a saucepan. Once melted, add the reserved chopped garlic and cook for 1 minute. Then whisk in 1 cup of the reserved seafood broth. Add some seafood boil seasoning to taste.

Dish out and serve the lobster seafood boil on 4 large plates with some seafood sauce poured on top. If you want a great sauce recipe, you should check out my crab boil seasoning sauce recipe.
