Keto hot chocolate is a hot chocolate recipe that uses only keto ingredients but tastes just as good. For this keto hot chocolate drink, I’ve replaced all the high sugar, high carbs ingredients easily and made a recipe that is rich, creamy and sweet with very little carbs!

Easy tips to make the best keto hot cocoa

  • To make the hot cocoa drink extra creamy, you can use 2 tablespoons of coconut cream per serving. Add this ingredient as the last step or right before you add your heavy cream. So if recipe makes 2 cups of hot chocolate, use 4 tablespoons of coconut cream to the recipe.
  • Sometimes cacao does not dissolve. So make sure to strain the mixture before serving.
  • Also, the hot chocolate has a tendency to create a fine crust. If that happens, stir well and strain again or just serve immediately.
  • To make this recipe dairy free, simply leave out the heavy cream for a yummy dairy free hot chocolate.

  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ tbsp granulated Stevia
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups unsweetened almond milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla, optional

To make this easy sugar free hot chocolate, first gather all your ingredients in one place.

Next, in a saucepot, whisk cocoa and Stevia, then add heavy cream.

 

Stir until you have a thick liquid. Then drizzle in the milk and whisk to combine.

 

Heat the hot chocolate mixture over medium-heat until it is very hot. But do not allow it to come to a boil.

Remove from heat and stir in vanilla if you are using. Then pour the hot chocolate into serving glasses and serve. You can top with whipped heavy cream if desired.

Can hot chocolate be made in an instant pot?

You can also make this recipe in an instant pot. To make, simply combine all the ingredients except the sweetener in the instant pot, set to high pressure for 2 mins. Then lock and cook. The sweetener is kept out until last minute to avid burning. 

Once done, you can add the low carb sweetener and stir until it dissolves.

 

Recipe substitute ideas

For substitutes, you can use any low carb sweetener that you prefer. In this recipe, stevia was used. However, you can swap for Monk Fruit or Erythritol.

You can also substitute the unsweetened almond milk for either unsweetened coconut milk or unsweetened cashew as these two are very creamy.

You can also replace the unsweetened cocoa powder with melted dark chocolate. Use 1 oz of melted chocolate per cup of hot chocolate.

 

How to store

Hot chocolate should only be allowed to stay out for 3 hours before it is stored away. You can store this hot chocolate recipe  in an air tight container for 24 hours in a fridge.
