Guacamole is keto-friendly. In fact, most guacamole recipes have minimal carbs. Most of the carbs are piled on based on the extras like bread and chips that are often eaten with guac. Therefore, if you can make these extras keto-friendly, then you will be able to enjoy keto guacamole easily and with zero guilt!

Carbs in guacamole

There are approximately 2.4 grams of carbs in guacamole.

How many net carbs are in guacamole?

On average, there is 1 gram of net carbs in every 30 grams or 2 tablespoons of guacamole. For this simple guac recipe below, there are 0.90 grams of net carbs in 2 tablespoons.

Keto guacamole

When it comes to delicious keto dips, guacamole and buffalo chicken dip are my favorites. But, if I had to choose one, I’d choose guac because avocados are one of my favorite foods.

It pairs well with lots of foods and can be eaten whether you’re doing keto or not. The best part is that guacamole is a very versatile recipe, so you can remove ingredients and add ingredients to change up the flavors every time you make it!

For this recipe, I stuck to the basics and made a delicious creamy low carb guacamole with tomatoes, onions, ripe avocados, and some freshly squeezed lime juice and the results turned out amazing…like it always does!

Ingredients for making low carb guac

  • 2 medium avocados
  • 1 lime (juiced)
  • ½ cups chopped and seeded tomatoes
  • ½ cup chopped yellow onions
  • Salt and pepper to taste

How to make keto guacamole

To make, gather all of your ingredients in one place.

Then chop up the onions and tomatoes.

Cut the avocados in half and scoop the meat from each half into a large enough bowl.

Next, add all of the remaining ingredients to the bowl.

Squeeze the lime juice into the bowl and mix until properly combined.

I like chunky guacamole so I mix minimally but, if you prefer a smooth recipe, mix for a little while longer until it is as smooth as you’d like it to be.

Storing and freezing guacamole

Now before we go further, homemade guacamole is super duper easy to make so you can always make it fresh in under 2 minutes rather than eating day old guacamole. This is the best way to do it as avocado and by extension, guacamole does not keep very well.

Having said this, if you still want to learn how to store leftover guacamole and prevent it from turning brown, here goes:

  1. Put the guacamole into an airtight container and flatten the surface with a spoon.
  2. Then pour a half inch of water so that it covers the surface (do not mix the water in, just pour it on top of the guacamole)
  3. Cover the container and refrigerate for up to 2 days.

To freeze: You can freeze guacamole, but I do not recommend it as it will lose most of its freshness. To freeze, place the guacamole in a ziplock bag, remove all the air and freeze for up to 2 months.

Now, you can have leftover guac last a little longer without becoming unappetizing!
