Can you really eat burritos on keto?

Burritos are extremely delicious and make an amazing breakfast idea. However, if you’re on any kind of low carb diet, you know that classic burritos are very high in carbs. In fact, one classic burrito contains almost 71 grams of carbs.

This way we’ve made this amazing keto breakfast burrito recipe that fits perfectly into the keto diet. For this recipe, we’ve replaced all high carbs ingredients with low carbs options, but, we’ve kept the delicious flavor of burritos.

Tips to help you make the best keto burrito

  • Tip 1 – bacon preparation – there are two ways you can make your bacon, in a skillet or in the oven. The skillet bacon will be a bit chewier and the oven bacon will be on the crispy side. You can choose whichever way you like best.
  • Tip 2 – the tortilla – now this may be tricky for some, but the tortilla is quite simple to make. You just sprinkle mozzarella into a hot skillet and wait for it to cook. The key to getting a good tortilla is allowing the cheese to cook nicely. So once you see those edges browning and you see your cheese tortilla moving in the skillet, you can remove it.
  • Tip 3 – folding – we suggest that you make the tortilla last. Once it gets cold, it may firm up and not be easy to work with, but if you experience this, just throw your cheese tortilla in a hot skillet and wait for 30 seconds. It will soften and you will be able to roll it nicely. You can also use our pliable almond flour tortillas for this step.

Place the 3 slices of bacon in a large skillet and cook until they’re crispy. Then place the bacon on a paper towel to drain out the excess oil.

How to wrap a burrito (especially a cheese wrap burrito)

I’ve touched on a few tips to help wrap a friendly breakfast burrito above. However, it’s best to put all this information in one place.

Before you start folding the cheese wrap burrito, make sure it’s warm. If you made it early on, simply toss it in a hot skillet for 30 seconds so it warms up and is more pliable and easier to work with. Cold cheese tortillas may firm up and be harder to work with.

Start by assembling the burrito: Do so by placing the cooked sausage, eggs, and bacon (or whatever filling you’re using) in the center of the cheese wrap. Do not over fill and make sure to leave ample space free. At least 2 – 3 inches free all around.

Assembling low carb burrito wrap

Make sure to be very gentle, since this keto wrap is made with cheese. Fold the sides inwards over the filling.

Then fold the bottom over so it completely covers the filling.

Then roll up, tucking in as you go until the burrito is fully wrapped.
