Ingredients
- 2 pounds of potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet work well)
- 1/4 cup butter or (vegan butter)
- 1/4 cup vegetable broth (or chicken broth for non-vegan options)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cloves garlic (optional, for flavor)
- Fresh herbs (like parsley or chives, optional)

How To Make Mashed Potatoes Without Milk
- Start by peeling the potatoes (or leave the skins on for more texture) and cut them into even-sized chunks.
- Then grab a large pot and place the potato chunks in there. Also, cover the potatoes with water and add a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil and cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.
- Drain the potatoes well and return them to the pot. Then mash the cooked potatoes using a potato masher or a fork until smooth or as chunky as you prefer.
- Once mashed, butter and vegetable broth to the mashed potatoes. Stir until combined, adding more broth if needed to reach your desired consistency.
- Season with some more salt, pepper, and any optional additions like garlic or fresh herbs. Enjoy!
Tips for Perfect Mashed Potatoes Without Milk

- Serving Suggestions: These no milk mashed potatoes pair beautifully with roasted vegetables, grilled meats, or your favorite gravy.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
- What’s a good substitute for vegetable broth? You can use water, chicken broth, or even a little unsweetened almond milk if you still want a bit of creaminess without the dairy.
- Why are my mashed potatoes lumpy? You can get lumpy mashed potatoes if the potatoes aren’t mashed thoroughly. To make sure you do not end up with lumpy mash, use a potato ricer or food processor to help you achieve a smoother texture. Also, your potatoes can be lumpy if they were overcooked. Make sure to avoid overcooking the potatoes to prevent lumps.
