If you’re looking for a super easy marinara sauce recipe, this one is your best bet. Made in under 15 minutes, this low-carb marinara sauce only has 4.7 grams of net carbs per serving!

Tips for the best marinara sauce

  • I only used grated garlic for this recipe; however, if you desire, you can use 1/2 cup of finely chopped onions for this sauce instead.
  • You can also use a combination of 1/2 cup finely chopped onions, 2 tbsp grated garlic, and chopped fresh parsley for this recipe for a really good sauce.
  • For this recipe, a can of 28 oz of crushed tomatoes with no salt added was used; however, you can also use fresh tomatoes that you pureed or chopped yourself, whole canned tomatoes, or canned pureed tomatoes. Anything you can find at your supermarket that is low in carbs and has no added sugars, seasonings, or salt will do just fine. This is important, as the added seasonings will affect the ultimate taste of the sauce.

Ingredients to make marinara sauce

  • 28 oz. tomato puree (no sugar added)
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 2 tbsp. grated garlic
  • 1 tsp. oregano
  • 1 tsp. thyme
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp. parsley
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon sweetener (ay you desire)

How to make homemade marinara sauce

To start, measure out and gather all of your ingredients in one place.

Then heat up the olive oil in a saucepan. Once the oil is heated, add in the grated garlic and cook, stirring frequently so it doesn’t burn, until fragrant, or about 30 seconds.

Next, add in the tomato puree and erythritol over medium heat and bring this to a simmer for 5 minutes. The sweetener is used mainly to cut the acidity of the tomatoes.

Then add in the dried parsley, oregano, some ground black pepper, and thyme, and cook for another two minutes while stirring constantly.

Lastly, add in the red wine vinegar, stir, then lower the heat and simmer for 5 minutes. At this stage, add the salt to taste.

Sprinkle with some fresh, chopped parsley, and serve.
