How to Make the Perfect Egg Boil

1. Boil the Eggs:

Start by placing the 4 eggs in a saucepan. Cover them with water and bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat. Once the water begins to boil, reduce the heat to a simmer and cook the eggs for about 8-10 minutes. For firmer yolks, let them simmer closer to the 10-minute mark.

Once cooked, drain the hot water and immediately transfer the eggs to a bowl of ice water. Let them chill for about 5 minutes before peeling. Set the eggs aside once peeled.

2. Sauté the Aromatics:

While your eggs are cooling, melt 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a medium skillet over medium heat. Add the minced white onion and garlic, sautéing for 3-4 minutes until the onion softens and the garlic becomes fragrant.

3. Add the Seasonings and Sauce:

Next, stir in 1 tablespoon of hot sauce, 2 ¼ teaspoons of Old Bay seasoning, 1 tablespoon of paprika, 3 teaspoons of light brown sugar, and 1 teaspoon of onion powder. Mix everything together well, allowing the spices to bloom in the butter and the sugar to dissolve. About 1 minute.

4. Simmer with Broth and Lemon:

Pour in ½ cup of low-sodium chicken broth (or water if you prefer) and stir to combine. Let the mixture simmer for 3-4 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly. Once the sauce has thickened, add 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice and 2 tablespoons of chopped parsley. Stir to incorporate.

5. Serve and Garnish:

Place the eggs in a bowl and pour the buttery egg boil sauce over them. Garnish with chopped parsley. Serve as is, or enjoy with crusty bread, like ciabatta or sourdough, steamed jasmine or basmati rice, sautéed greens, such as spinach or kale, fried plantains, crispy potatoes, or grilled vegetables like zucchini and bell peppers, a light cucumber and tomato salad, or corn on the cob.
