Overnight oats are also very veritable. You can make one batch (5x any base recipe below), then add your favorite fruits, nuts, seeds, protein powder or any other add ins you may like to make each mason jar of overnight oats different. If you get bored easily, then this is a way to counteract that!
They make for a healthy breakfast – but with very little hassle- I really like this about overnight oats. Choosing the Right Mason Jar Size for Your Overnight Oats
You can pretty much make your overnight oats in any jar or container that has a lid. However, I love it when things look uniform and I also love using mason jars because they’re portable, make very little mess and provide an airtight seal so the oats stay fresh and creamy for longer. Also, if I make overnight oats for the week, they’re super easy to stack.
The size of your jar is entirely all up to you, but I personally prefer using 12 oz or 16 oz jars. And, I tend to lean more toward my 16 oz jars for a more generous serving and because I love love love pilling my overnight oats toppings high! My 16 oz mason jars provide me ample extra space to do so.
Looking for mason jars? These are my latest favorite mason jars. I just got them a few months ago and I’ve been using them non stop! Some Common Overnight Oats Issues + Easy Fixes
Making overnight oats is pretty straightforward, but sometimes things might turn out quite as you expect. Don’t worry! There have been a few times when my oats didn’t turn out right. So, here are some easy tweaks you can make to your mason jar overnight oats if you find that your oats aren’t to you liking the next day:
1. Oats Are Too Watery
This is a pretty common issue that can happen if you added too much liquid to the overnight oats. To fix it, simply add a bit more oats to the jar and refrigerate for a few more hours.
2. Oats Are Too Thick
If your oats are too thick or dry after soaking, it’s likely because you didn’t add enough liquid or, if you’re making a larger batch (like for 3-5 days), the oats have absorbed more liquid over time. To fix this, simply add a splash of milk or water to loosen them up. Stir well and let it sit for a few minutes until the texture is as creamy as you’d like.
3. The Flavor Isn’t Right
Sometimes the flavor doesn’t come out as expected. If your oats taste bland, simply adding a little extra sweetness can help fix this. In that case, some extra honey, maple syrup, brown sugar or stevia are great options.
Another way to boost the flavor of your oats is with some cinnamon powder or vanilla extract. To avoid bland oats, make sure to taste your overnight oats mixture before refrigerating it overnight.
4. Oats Are Too Lumpy
Your overnight oats can become lumpy if to mixed well. Make sure to stir the oats throughly (and leave not dry pockets) so you don’t end up with lumps.
