Why Strawberry Lemonade Smoothies are Perfect for Summer
This strawberry lemonade smoothie is both delicious and incredibly refreshing, making it perfect for summertime. Strawberry lemonade is one of my favorite flavor combinations because the natural sweetness of the strawberries pairs so beautifully with the tartness of fresh lemon. I absolutely have to make a few of these during the hotter days—otherwise, it just doesn’t feel like summer!
What’s more this smoothie is perfect for a quick breakfast, a midday snack, or something to serve at a summer BBQ.
And lastly, it is a healthier alternative to the many sugary drinks we tend to crave during summer that you can actually feel good about.
This smoothie is perfect for hot days, and makes the most refrshing combination! So, if you’re craving something that is both cool and tangy this sumer, you cannot go wrong with this simple smoothie recipe!
Ingredients
- 2 cups frozen strawberries
- 1 cup cold lemonade
- ¾ cup Vanilla yogurt
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup (optional for extra sweetness)
Tools Needed
- Blender
A good-quality blender is a must for making a smooth, creamy smoothie. If you’re using frozen strawberries, which i highly recommend, then you need a high-speed blender so that everything blends evenly without any chunks.
I use this powerful blender in so many recipes — from homemade nut butters to smoothies and sauces. It handles tough ingredients like nuts and frozen fruit without slowing down. If you're looking for one kitchen tool that truly delivers, this is it.
- Measuring Cups
To make sure you’re adding the right amount of each ingredient, measuring cups are a must. This will help you get the perfect balance of flavors. You can get accurate measuring cups here. - Cutting Board and Knife
You’ll need a cutting board and knife to hull (remove the tops) from the strawberries if you’re using fresh ones. - Glass or Cup
You need a tall glass, cup or mason jar for serving. - Straw or Spoon (Optional)
How to Make Strawberry Lemonade Smoothie
Grab a high-speed blender (you can find a great one here) and combine the frozen strawberries, lemonade, and yogurt.
Then blend until smooth and creamy. If the smoothie is too thick, add a splash more lemonade.
Pour into a mason jar, tall glass, or a reusable smoothie cup (grab yours here) and garnish with fresh mint and enjoy!
This 8-pack of 16 oz glass bottles comes with straws, airtight lids, and a travel-friendly design—great for smoothies, kombucha, bubble tea, or meal prep drinks.
Tips for the Perfect Smoothie
Frozen strawberries are the key to making this smoothie the best it can be, especially in terms of texture and flavor. While fresh strawberries are abundant during this time of year and can certainly be used, frozen strawberries are the best way to go. In fact, I recommend freezing your fresh berries yourself before making the smoothie. Why? Because frozen strawberries will provide a thick, creamy, and chilled texture without the need for ice— which can sometimes water down the flavor of the smoothie.
Also if you want to add some extra tang, add a bit of lemon zest to the smoothie!
How to Freeze Strawberries for Smoothies:
- Wash and Dry:
Start by washing your strawberries thoroughly to get rid of any dirt or pesticides. Then, pat them dry with a clean towel to make sure they’re dry before freezing to prevent ice crystals from forming. - Remove the Tops:
Cut off the green stems from the strawberries so they’re easier to blend later. - Flash Freeze:
Arrange the strawberries in a single layer on a baking sheet. Make sure the berries don’t touch each other. This method, called “flash freezing,” helps prevent the berries from sticking together, so you can easily grab just the right amount when you’re ready to make your smoothie. - Freeze for 2–4 Hours:
Place the baking sheet in the freezer and let the strawberries freeze for 2-4 hours. Once frozen, transfer the berries to a freezer-safe bag or container. Make sure to label the bag with the date to keep track of how long they’ve been stored. - Store and Use:
Once the berries are frozen, you can store them in the freezer for up to 6 months.
Important Final Tip:
If you have a high-speed blender, then your frozen strawberries can be blended straight from the freezer. But, if your blender isn’t as powerful, you should let the frozen berries sit for a few minutes at room temperature so they soften slightly before blending. This way you won’t have any chunks in your smoothie!
