On days like this, there is nothing quite like a platter of sticky, saucy BBQ chicken wings fresh out of the oven. And, my BBQ chicken wings are just what you need! They are crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, and coated in a smoky sweet barbecue sauce for the perfect flavor.

These wings are great to make for yourself, for a quick dinner and they’re also great if you’re hosting game day, or planning a backyard cookout. Best of all? You only need a handful of pantry staples and one good BBQ sauce to make these at home!

Why You’ll Love These BBQ Chicken Wings

  • They’re crispy without frying – Whether you bake these or grill them, you’ll get perfectly crisp wings without deep frying.
  • They’re sticky & saucy – Every bite is packed with flavor since they’re tossed in BBQ sauce and baked until caramelized to perfection.
  • They’re easy to make – All you need to do, is season, bake, and glaze.
  • They’re a crowd favorite – These wings disappear fast at parties, game nights, and potlucks.
  • They’re customizable – You can choose your favorite BBQ sauce whether that be sweet, smoky, spicy, or even sugar-free for keto!

Ingredients

  • 1 Kg or 2.2 lbs chicken wings (drumettes and flats, tips removed)
  • 2 Teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil (for oiling the rack)
  • 1 Teaspoon salt
  • ½ Teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 Teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 Teaspoon smoked paprika (optional, for extra smokiness)
  • ¾ Cup BBQ sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 Tablespoon chopped parsley (for garnish)

How to Make BBQ Chicken Wings

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Then line a large baking sheet with tin foil and grease a wire rack with the olive oil on both sides. Set this aside.

Clean and wash the wings. Then dry them by patting them with paper towels.

Grab a large bowl and mix the baking powder, salt, pepper, garlic powde and smoked parika (if using) together. Add the dry chicken wings to this bowl and coat evenly.

Make-Ahead Tip: Season the wings in advance and let them rest, uncovered, in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. This drying step helps the skin crisp up beautifully. When you’re ready, just pop the tray in the oven and bake.

Then, place the chicken on the wire rack. Make sure they’re evenly spaced and bake for 20 minutes. Flip, then bake again for another 20 minutes.

Remove the baked wings from the oven and place them in a clean bowl. Reserve the baking sheet/wire rack.

Add the BBQ sauce to the bowl and coat the wings evenly.

Return the coated wings to the baking sheet/wire rack and bake for 8–10 minutes. You can skip this step completely if you like saucier wings.
